DORCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The City of Boston is considering requests to add parking meters to Dorchester Avenue in Fields Corner.

Restaurant and business owners have called on city officials to conduct a study looking into adding the meters because the current two-hour parking restrictions are rarely enforced.

"We just don’t see enough being done to alleviate the parking situation," said Junior Pena, who owns several businesses on Dorchester Avenue. Pena told WBZ NewsRadio Thursday that with drivers parking their vehicles in spots for too long, it's costing him and other business owners potential revenue.

"A lot of times you lose those customers, you lose that patience, because people get frustrated and they’d rather go somewhere else where they don’t have to face the same challenges," Pena said. "The situation, especially I would say over the last two years, has gotten much, much worse."

"It’s possible that it could work," one Dorchester resident told WBZ NewsRadio. "I mean I’m not gonna doubt it, ‘cause it’s possible."

A similar study earlier this year led to the proposal of adding parking meters to Roslindale Square.
