BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Good parking is hard to come by — just ask the Bostonians living in Southie fighting to get their parking spots back.
Car owners like Cara are sounding the alarm about the parking crisis in her neighborhood,
"Parking is difficult seven days a week. Weekends, weeknights — it's just really tight. There's just not enough parking spaces."
Currently, permit parking for street spaces is only active Monday through Friday from 6 pm to 10 am, leaving residents struggling to find a spot during the weekends.
City Councilor Ed Flynn blames the issue on out-of-state visitors who come to the city for the weekend. He is proposing a major overhaul of the parking restrictions in the area.
"My plan is to convert the neighborhood of South Boston to resident parking only, for seven nights per week, for all the areas that currently lack overnight restrictions."
Flynn's parking proposal will head to the committee for further review.
Recently, the Zoning Board of Appeal rejected a proposal for a 70-unit apartment building with no parking on D Street, between Andrew Square and Broadway T, claiming the additional unit would only exacerbate the issues in South Boston.
