BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Members of the public are being invited to get a close look at White Stadium's current condition and learn more about upcoming renovation plans Thursday.
The City of Boston and Boston Unity Soccer Partners will host an open house at the historic stadium in Franklin Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with live music, face painting, balloon artists, and local businesses.

The two entities are working together on a plan to renovate White Stadium into a new facility that will mostly be available for community use, including Boston Public Schools. It will also become the home for the National Women's Soccer League's Boston expansion team, which is owned by Boston Unity Soccer Partners.
"We have an opportunity for everyone to really come see up close what the changes will look like and what the conditions are now," said Mayor Michelle Wu, who will be in attendance at the open house.
Wu lamented the stadium's crumbling state and said students in Boston deserve better.
"It’s just not what we aspire to and what we know will unlock the full potential of the incredible talent we have in Boston," Wu said.
The event comes amid an ongoing lawsuit by neighborhood residents and the Emerald Necklace Conservancy to block the renovation project. The group argues the plan would "fundamentally alter the nature and feel of a significant portion of Franklin Park."
When asked about the lawsuit against the city and BUSP, Mayor Wu responded, "The judge ruled in a preliminary ruling that the project could proceed while the lawsuit was continuing to play out. We felt very comfortable with moving forward on that front. We’ve had design meetings, transportation planning meetings, and are now at a point where the project has received approval from the Landmarks Commission."
