BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston city officials issued a heat emergency starting Sunday through Tuesday next week.

The upcoming forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-90s, with “real feels” in the triple digits. Boston Emergency Medical Services said they typically experience an 10% to 15% increase in emergency calls related to overheating.

“With this heat emergency coming as we kick off the summer season, we ask our community members to please take care and prepare accordingly for the extreme heat,” Mayor Michelle Wu said, also reminding residents to stay hydrated and check in on neighbors and friends.

Meanwhile, the Department of Conservation and Recreation opened 24 swimming pools and watering pads this weekend in accordance with the heat wave.

In addition, Boston Public Library locations are also open for residents to cool off during the summer. Several Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) centers will be open for Cooling Centers starting Sunday. They will be available Monday and Tuesday during their normal operating hours.
