BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mayor Michelle Wu's Office of Civic Organizing is offering grants to help neighborhoods host safe, spooky Halloween block parties.
The inaugural Spooky Streets grants provide $250 to buy items like candy, pumpkins, decorations, and face paint.
The program is a haunted twist on the City's Block Party Grant Program.

In order to host a Spooky Streets block party, groups must apply for a Play Street Closing Permit, which allows for a residential street to be closed to through-traffic. The permit does not allow for grills, alcoholic beverages, food trucks, carnival rides, street vendors, amplified music, petting zoos, or inflatable structures.
Groups must apply for a Play Street Closing Permit at least four weeks before their block party and fill out a separate form for grant application.
Only parties held on public streets from Friday, Oct. 25 to Sunday, Nov. 3 will be eligible for the grant. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m.
