REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mayor Brian Arrigo said Revere's positive COVID-19 test rates are now three times higher than the state average.
Arrigo blames residents not following safety guidelines.
"One resident tested positive who ultimately infected 20 other family members and friends through attending gatherings," Arrigo said.
He said the city is taking immediate action for the health and safety of its residents.
"Extending city events and city programming, and our students will be learning remotely until the data around COVID-19 in our community starts improving," Arrigo said.
The 'Pumpkin Dash' and Revere High School's graduation are some of the city events that have been cancelled to be safe.
