CLINTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio— People across New England are driving to Clinton for their chance to try a dirty soda at The Fountain.

The sugary, sweet beverage originated in Utah as an alternative to alcohol and coffee. It combines soda or seltzer with flavored syrup and a splash of coconut creamer, which she said isn't always an easy one to sell to customers.

"It's like a lighter version of an ice cream float if you think about it that way. So, it's soda or we do some seltzers too. And they're mixed with syrups. We use Torani syrups and creamer too," Lauren Nanof, the owner of the fountain told WBZ NewsRadio.

"We're still having to like convince people that creamer in soda is a good idea to try because to some people it sounds kind of creepy or gross."

Nanof said the drink has found it's fame thanks to reality tv and of course, social media.

"That show, The Secret Life of Moron Wives, is what propelled it and then now like the trending on TikTok and bring it to TikTok and people had told us like they started Googling where can I get dirty soda and us being the one that popped up," Nanof said.

"Someone was coming from far up in Maine, past Bangor, and they were visiting Boston and drove here on their way home back to Maine, and Clinton's not on your way home back to Maine."

The family-owned company opened its doors in downtown Clinton a few years ago with the mission to create drinks, treats and snacks that serve the community. With the plan to breathe new life into an old concept, Nanof hopes to revive and renew the trend born from Mormon culture 15 years ago.
