BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Walgreens is closing one of its Dorchester locations on Sept. 10, according to a letter sent to customers and a notice on the pharmacy’s website.

Customers at the Walgreens on Washington Street in Codman Square were told to re-fill their prescriptions at other locations, including in Savin Hill, which is over a mile away, and Mattapan, which is two miles away.

“Some people don’t necessarily have transportation, so it's just really gonna be hard on most of the seniors and people that really can’t get around,” said Mark, a customer at the Codman Square Walgreens. “It’s just unfortunate.”

Walgreens announced in late 2024 that it was eventually closing around 1,200 stores nationwide.

Dorchester lost another Walgreens in April when the Gallivan Boulevard location permanently closed.

“Whereas others have more options, these people will be forced to have to travel far distances just to get their prescriptions filled,” said Leoia, another local resident.

Mark said the closure doesn’t affect him, but he’s worried for others who rely on that location.

“I’m able now to get my prescriptions delivered to my home so I’m good in that sense and just hope others can do the same,” Mark said.
