COHASSET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A falling tree in Cohasset, Mass. wrecked a police cruiser and led to a close call for one of the town’s police officers.
At around 1 p.m. on South Main St. and River Road, the officer responded to a report of low-hanging wires. All of a sudden he heard a loud snap and saw a giant tree falling towards him.
The officer took off down South Main St., but the tree smashed through the parked police cruiser, damaging it beyond repair.
"We dodged a tragedy today, and I'm so thankful that the officer is okay,” Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley. “This incident is an excellent example of why we always encourage people to stay indoors during these storm events.”
Even though Hurricane Lee did not bring much rain, strong gusts of wind caused tree damage in parts of southeastern Massachusetts.
