SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you considered turning the heat on in your house in recent weeks, you are not alone. As temperatures in Boston continue to drop, some residents are wondering when the warmer temperatures will arrive.
"It's supposed to be summer. In just a few weeks it's June and it's kinda sad. Usually, it's all nice and warm but it's all sad and gloomy and it's too cold," said Maliyah of Springfield.
With the statewide motto being "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes," some residents are questioning when the five minutes will finally end.
"I had to bring back my winter jacket. That was not fun. It sucks, it's supposed to be summer," said another resident.
Last year, residents across Massachusetts enjoyed highs near 80 degrees and lows hitting 57 degrees. As opposed to the back-to-back rainy weekends happening this year, locals experienced 7 days of precipitation in April and May 2024. But even with the low temperatures, some refuse to touch their thermostats.
"We're all used to it, you know. My wife, my kids are all in their 20's, so when they are home, they need to suck it up," said Tracey of Springfield. "Dad, it's cold in here. Suck it up!"
With some Bay Staters facing rising utility costs, one resident said turning on the heat is not an affordable option.
"Because National Grid is my carrier and they doubled my monthly cost on heating, we're just gonna suffer."
