Columbia Gas: Nearly All Service Restored In Lawrence After Leak

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Columbia Gas announced that gas service had been restored to almost all customers Saturday night following Friday's major gas leak in the area of South Broadway.

The company tweeted Sunday that service was restored to "nearly all homes and businesses in South Lawrence" as of 9 p.m.

In a tweet, Columba Gas offered up an apology to their affected customers "for the disruption," and also thanked "local and state officials and first responders for their partnership over the past two days" as they "worked to safely restore gas service to the area."

Any customers who were not home to have their gas relit are asked to call 1-866-388-3239 to have their service restored.

The leak occurred when a contractor that was working for the city of Lawrence opened a gas valve that was mislabeled as water.

The system has since been inspected by Columbia Gas.
