Commuters Vexed By Traffic 'Rush Hours' Now Around-The-Clock

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Remember the good old days when there were defined rush hours for the work commute .... generally, 6-8 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.?

Well, since the pandemic, those days appear to be long gone.

Talk to most commuters and they will confirm traffic just always seems to be jammed, no matter what time of day. "There's just a lot more traffic now, positively," said one commuter. Another said traffic is horrible most of the time. "Traffic has definitely gotten worse, 24-7," she said.

And another driver said his workday is now considerably longer than it was a few years ago. "I have to leave an hour and a half earlier than I ever did just to get to work on time."

Other commuter observations.... when there are openings in the road, driving 80 miles an hour has replaced the more common 60-65 miles an hour for many drivers.

And it's not just Boston that has around-the-clock traffic jams... they are everywhere including New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Some commuters also said they notice more distracted drivers than ever, from using cell phones to vaping.

WBZ's Chris Fama (CFamaWBZ) reports.
