CONCORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A full day of events around Greater Boston is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

In the town of Concord, officials said this year’s celebration was years in the making.

“It is fabulous today,” one attendee at Concord’s event Saturday told WBZ NewsRadio. “So many people out celebrating this special event.”

In addition to a parade down Battle Road, the city also reenacted the battle on Old North Bridge, which widely signified the American Revolution's start on April 19, 1775.

“However, Lexington rallied later in the day, and as the Red Coats were going back to Boston, Lexington was one of the 23 communities that followed them back and chased them back to Boston," historian Beth Vanduzer said.

The semi-quincentennial events began Friday night as reenactors took off retelling Paul Revere’s midnight ride in the North End. Among the people who took off on horseback that night in 1775 was Dr. Samuel Prescott, who was the only one who made it to Concord, alerting the arrival of the British.

The American Revolution anniversary parade in Boston will take place Monday morning during the Boston Marathon.
