Confirmation Date Set for Marty Walsh As Labor Secretary

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is one step closer to becoming the next US Secretary of Labor.

His confirmation vote is now scheduled for Monday, March 22. Walsh has been Mayor of Boston since 2014.

If Walsh is confirmed, current City Council President Kim Janey will become the first woman and first person of color to serve as mayor of Boston.

There are six candidates are running for mayor so far: Former city Chief of Economic Development John Barros, State Rep. Jon Santiago, City Councilors Andrea Campbell, Michelle Wu, and Anissa Essaibi George, and former hotel manager Dana Depelteau.

A non-partisan primary election will be held on September 21 to narrow the field.
