UXBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It is almost the end of National School Principals Month and Mass. Congressman Jim McGovern wanted to honor the principals in his district.

McGovern became principal for the day at Uxbridge High School, speaking with the students about the things they are currently learning. He was impressed at the hands-on learning the kids were getting, as opposed to just learning from books.

“I’m just so impressed because I think the skills you’re learning here are going to make you easily and readily employable when you get out of here,” McGovern said to the students.

At a senior engineering class, he watched as the students used 3D printers and other high-tech tools to solve complex problems. Principal of Uxbridge High School Michael Rubin spoke with WBZ’s Kim Tunnicliffe about their teaching strategy.

“Our students are trying to learn the why and the how that’s going to guide them to success. It’s not just this passive iteration of information in and information out,” said Rubin.

WBZ’s Kim Tunnicliffe (@KimWBZ) reports.
