BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Following reports that Russian missiles had exploded in Poland and killed two residents there, Congressman Bill Keating reminded the public to avoid speculating about Tuesday's events.

Congressman Keating, who chairs the House Subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment, and Cyber, tells WBZ's Tim Dunn that he expects congressional committees to hold classified meetings to discuss the explosions.

"It's important right now more than anything else, given the gravity of the situation potentially not to speculate beyond the information we have— that's critical in matters like this. The Kremlin has denied it, that means nothing, because their denials when they've been involved in the past have proved to be false," Keating said.

As leaders of nations part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization scramble to emergency meetings over the fatalities, Keating says all the public can do is wait for more information.

"We've reached out to the Armed Services Committee liaison and the State Department requesting classified [information]. It's very clear in Article 5 there's a requirement to defend against actions that strike any NATO territory, but again, we'll see what the circumstances are," Keating continued.

According to reports from the Associated Press, Russia had hit Ukraine's power supply with volleys of missiles on Tuesday, enough to affect energy levels in the neighboring country of Moldova.
