Construction Accident In Newton Leaves One Worker Dead

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A construction worker was killed Thursday morning in Newton after a concrete wall collapsed on top of him.

The incident happened in the backyard of a home that was under construction.

Newton Fire Chief Gino Lucchetti said the department was called to the scene on Winchester Street just before 8 a.m.

“Into our rescue operations, we realized at a certain time that the person under the wall was not viable and it turned into a recovery operation,” Lucchetti said.

The street was closed for hours as the fire department, police, and OSHA investigated the scene. It is not clear what caused the wall to collapse.

No one was else was hurt during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
