QUINCY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — While cooler temperatures have moved in, the searing heat we just suffered through made for some lasting memories.
In Quincy, the owner of an Italian restaurant decided to favor the safety of his employees over bottom-line considerations.
Anthony Martocchio is the owner of Gennaro's Eatery.
Quincy locals are praising Martocchio for sending his employees home when temperatures hit triple digits on Tuesday.
Martocchio said the decision wasn't really all that hard. "We closed just because first off, it's going to be too hot for the staff," Martocchio said. "Second, I don't think anyone was going out to eat."
Martocchio received plenty of kudos on social media.
He also got them from his employees.
Kyle Muller works at Gennaros which has been operating for 30 years.
He said the praise for Martocchio was well deserved, and in the end, the restaurant's customers benefit. "I always believe that if you take care of your team, they will take care of the customers," he said.
Mullens added that he's proud to work for a boss like Gennaro Martocchio.
