Cooling Centers, Splash Pads Open As Mayor Wu Declares Heat Emergency

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has declared a heat emergency in effect Tuesday through Thursday because of a projected heat wave.

AccuWeather says high temperatures are expected to be in the 90s on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with the heat index reaching or exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

A heat advisory will be in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. An excessive heat watch will be in effect from noon Wednesday through 7 p.m. Friday.

Cooling centers will be open at 14 Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) community centers Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Splash pads will also be open at parks and playgrounds throughout the city.

The Boston Public Library will also have locations open on Tuesday and Thursday to help residents beat the heat.
