BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Central Library in Copley Square hosts a weekly knitting and crochet group where members also chat about the news.

The program is called Unraveling the News: Knitting and Crochet Conversation Circle.

Erica Husting, who is the library’s media and journalism specialist, explained that the group meets for an hour and a half every week. Half of this time is spent crocheting or knitting, and the other half is spent listening to a news-related podcast and then discussing it with their fellow group members.

“It’s an opportunity for people to come together and create community with fellow crafters and then also to stay informed on current events,” Husting said.

The weekly event was received very well by its participants, such as Liza Vito.

“I think it's really great to have an opportunity to meet a bunch of people I'd never met before of a variety of ages, backgrounds, and parts of the city over a common craft and get to share different viewpoints on the news,” Vito said.

Judy Takdjerad was another participant who thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“It’s really expanded my capacity beyond the librarian to learn how people learn and get information, so it's been very valuable that way,” Takdjerad said.
