BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced 679 new cases of COVID-19 in the state Wednesday, along with four more deaths attributed to the virus.
That brings the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the Commonwealth to 15, and the total number of cases to 1,838.
State officials said the four deaths were a man in his 80s from Norfolk County, a man in his 80s from Barnstable County, and a man and woman in their 70s from Worcester County. All wre hospitalized and had pre-existing conditions.
Middlesex County has the most cases with 446, followed by Suffolk County with 342, Norfolk County with 222, and Essex County with 177.
A total of 19,794 people have been tested—that's up 6,045 from Tuesday.
MassDPH said a total of 103 patients are hospitalized.
Last month's Biogen conference and household contacts of the attendees accounted for 99 of the cases, while 146 were attributed to local transmission, 92 were travel-related, and 1,501 were still under investigation.
