Family, Friend Visits Suspended At All Mass. Prisons Over COVID-19

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Correction has temporarily suspended all family and friend visits at facilities across the Commonwealth due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.

"The health of staff, incarcerated individuals, and visitors is of utmost importance," the DOC said in a press release.

Staff at the Department of Corrections have been told they need to contact superiors to be allowed to return to work if they've been in contact with someone with the virus, or if they've been to a place where the virus is occurring.

The department said they would re-evaluate the suspension of visits on an ongoing basis.

Incarcerated individuals are still able to meet with their attorneys, as those visits have not been affected.
