NAIROBI, Kenya – (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Kenyan court hearing scheduled Monday for Kevin Kangethe, the man accused of murdering his girlfriend at Boston Logan International Airport and leaving her slain body in a vehicle before fleeing to Kenya, will be moved to February 27.
Kangethe, 40, from Lowell, escaped police custody in Kenya two weeks ago while awaiting extradition on a Massachusetts warrant on alleged charges of murder. The family of his alleged victim Maggie Mbitu, 32, of Whitman, had traveled to Kenya to attend the court proceedings scheduled to begin Monday.
The four officers on duty at the time of Kangethe’s escape from police custody have been suspended and will face disciplinary action and may face prosecution.
Last week on Feb. 13, Kangethe was rearrested in a suburb outside Nairobi and is being held in a maximum-security prison ahead of his court hearing next week.
Mbitu was a healthcare worker in Halifax, who was last seen leaving work on Oct. 30 and was reported missing by her family.
