COVID Cases On The Rise Among Worcester Walmart Employees

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A total of 81 employees at a Walmart in Worcester have now tested positive for the coronavirus, with more than 70 percent of those cases reported this week.

According to city officials, the store on Tobias Boland Way was closed last week for a deep cleaning, after the first 23 employees had tested positive for the virus.

Last Thursday and Friday, another 391 staff were tested. 58 of them were positive for COVID-19, and 333 tested negative. That brought the store's total number of confirmed employee cases to 81.

The first recorded case of coronavirus among the store's staff was reported on April 8th, according to city officials. As of Saturday, Worcester had confirmed a total of 2,297 cases of COVID-19 in the city.
