Covid Milestone: Mass. 7-Day Average Positivity Rate Drops Below 1 Percent

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Commonwealth reached a major Covid-19 milestone on Saturday.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported that the state's 7-day average positivity rate for the virus fell to 0.99 percent -- down from 1.05 percent the previous day.

It is the first time the weighted average has fallen below 1 percent since September of 2020.

When it comes to the other Covid-19 numbers, the DPH reported 405 newly confirmed cases of the virus on Saturday out of 49,584 new molecular tests.

As of Saturday evening, 281 patients are being hospitalized for Covid-19, including 81 people in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Five more people died from the virus on Saturday, bringing the total number of people who have died from Covid-19 in Massachusetts to 17,458.
