BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's no secret that Boston is a big sports town -- and in most years, all three major teams playing in the city in one weekend is no big deal.
But this weekend is a different story -- as all Covid-19 restrictions were lifted for the first time in over a year on Saturday.
The Red Sox will play at Fenway on Saturday afternoon at full capacity and will not require masks. The ballpark will commemorate the full opening by having CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, who is a Massachusetts native, throw out the first pitch.
The Bruins will also face off against the Islanders on Saturday night at TD Garden for Game 1 of Round 2 of the playoffs. The stadium will open to 18,000 fans -- but masks will still be required, regardless of vaccination status.

Finally, the Celtics will play against the nets again on Sunday night -- in front of 17,000 fans, also at TD Garden.
Although state-wide Covid-19 orders are now lifted, it will be up to individual cities, towns and local businesses to decide if they will still require masks or capacity limits.
Meantime statewide, masks are still required on public and private transportation, like the MBTA or rideshares, and in healthcare facilities like hospitals and nursing homes.
