CAMBRIDGE, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) – Covid testing is ramping up in Massachusetts as caution grows over the Delta Variant.

The CIC Health Testing site in Cambridge has seen a 60% increase in tests over the last month. The company itself has reportedly seen a 35% increase in testing across the state.

WBZ’s James Rojas spoke to Derrick from New Bedford, who said he is taking the Delta Variant seriously.

“Everything’s climbing,” he said, “not comfortable at all. That’s why I’m starting to wear my mask.”

Derrick has also noticed more people around the area wearing masks. This comes as Massachusetts recorded over a thousand positive cases in a single day for the first time since May.

CIC Health says its expanding hours at some of its testing site and may open some pop-up sites if needed.

As of Thursday night, the state’s seven-day positive test rate was at 2.61%.
