'Cowardly Attacks': Wu Responds To Globe Commenter Inside City Hall

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston city councilors are no strangers to criticism. But this time, the potshots are coming from inside city hall.

The Boston Globe reports a city hall employee — or employees — have been leaving scathing comments about Boston officials on its website.

On Wednesday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu told WBZ NewsRadio's James Rojas that the comments were "cowardly attacks."

"These anonymous accounts are a part of modern day politics right now," she said. "It's certainly not an appropriate use of public resources... no amount of anonymous swiping here or there is going to slow us down," she said. Wu said she believed the council was investigating.

The paper says the prolific comments were left by the account with the username “Interested Party." It got a tip that the account is shared by dozens of people at city hall.

The anonymous commenter is a mostly an equal-opportunity insulter: they've gone after the mayor and eleven city councilors. Only the more conservative councilors — Erin Murphy and Frank Baker —have been spared.

Some of the insults are deeply personal. One says Wu "simply not up to the job" of mayor. Another calls her aides “ivy grads who couldn’t find most city neighborhoods on a map.”

Every city councilor has denied their involvement to the paper.

City Council President Ed Flynn has implemented a "no-bullying policy," and City Councilor Brian Worrell is calling for an investigation.

WBZ NewsRadio reached out to Flynn and Worrell for comment.
