LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Lakeville Fire Department and surrounding towns responded to several brush fires Friday ignited by windy and dry conditions.

Fire officials said the first fire was started at around 10:30 a.m. on Howland Road after a controlled backyard burn got out of hand. The second fire broke out on Johnson Drive under similar circumstances and spread to nearby woods. Authorities were able to stabilize the fire before it reached the neighboring Christmas tree farms.

Extra staffing was deployed to the mission due to high-volume calls.

Sunday’s forecast calls for another round of dangerous fire conditions.
