CHARLESTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Our long regional nightmare is over.

After months of being missing from the menu at the 99 Restaurant, potato skins are making a triumphant return. The 99 first removed potato skins from its menu back in March of 2022 after its potato supplier lost its facility in a fire and the restaurant originally opted to change the menu instead of finding a new supplier.

Now that the 99 has a new supplier, the fan-favorite menu item can return to its rightful place amongst the starters and wings. The new menu item is almost identical to the original, with melted Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses and applewood smoked bacon on top of brand-new crispy potato skins, along with a side of sour cream.

The return of the skins is not just a big hit amongst customers though. Pina, a server at the 99 Restaurant in Charlestown, said all the employees are thrilled as well.

"We were jumping for joy, all the servers were, and bartenders, and management," she said. "[People would complain] over and over and over again, 20 times a day at least."

Kevin, a Woburn resident, was the man who originally brought this injustice to light and while he's excited that the potato skins are back on the menu, he said it's important that people don't let the hype die down.

"We can't risk them going away again," he said. "Fight for change is the lesson here."

But fear not, Pina said customers are very excited to see the potato skins back on the menu.

"They're double ordering them," she said. "They're ordering them as an appetizer, meal, and dessert."
