BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A packed crowd waited with baited breath Sunday night in Trident Booksellers.

With each award handed out, the 96th Academy Awards drew closer to an end and onlookers in the Newbury St. bookstore scratched off predictions on hand-written bingo cards.

Year in and year out, the Oscars watch party is Trident Booksellers' marquee event, a store employee said.

In a city of transplants, the gathering lets movie lovers and friend seekers mingle among the aisles of books and trinkets.

"In all those crowded tables, you see a lot of people sitting at the same table [who] don't know each other," an employee told WBZ NewsRadio's Chaiel Schaffel.

Anyone with "Oppenheimer" on their card cleaned up in the competition.

The Christopher Nolan thriller ran away with seven trophies, including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and Best Picture.

Emma Stone took home the Best Actress award for her performance in "Poor Things."
