BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — CVS has started putting the keys in customers’ hands.
Many stores keep items behind a wall of plexiglass, hoping to protect the products and cut down on shoplifting. The items can vary from store to store, but customers have traditionally had to wait for an employee to come break them out.
“I’m a recovering drug addict so I understand why they’re locking it up because we steal when we’re in active addiction. I know it makes it harder for people, but it is what it is,” said another customer.
“I feel like it’s a [waste of time because] you have to wait for someone to open it for you. I feel like there is some kind of mistrust,” said one customer.
Now, CVS has started rolling out a new feature on its app, which allows customers to open smart locks with their phones. While it has not reached all stores just yet, most customers welcomed the change.
“As long as it makes it quicker, I’m all for it,” said one customer.
“It’s real convenient, that's all I can say,” said another customer. “I think it will make everything very simple.”
