NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Friday night, one dancing competition in Norwood is aiming to take steps in the right direction for charity.

"Dancing with the Norwood Stars," features six resident participants going toe-to-toe in their rendition of the popular television show Dancing with the Stars, all in an effort to raise funds for the non-profit Norwood Circle of Hope Foundation, which assists families through disastrous circumstances of every kind.

WBZ's Chris Fama spoke to a couple of the contestants about their upcoming performances, including Norwood General Manager Tony Mazzucco.

"My sister has actually done professional dance her whole life and I've never done it, so I'm hoping I win so I can sit down at Easter and say: 'you know, mom and dad, I actually won a dance award, not my sister,'" Mazzucco said. Mazzucco says that his dance routine will include a sort of "lasso" type flair to it.

But Mazzucco has stiff competition as Boston Children's Hospital's Tracy Curran puts the finishing touches on her act at the final rehearsal. Curran says she's a Norwood townie through and through.

"I was born and raised in Norwood, I graduated from Norwood High, and I married another townie and we started a family. Norwood really does pull together- it's a great town and a great community," Curran said.

Joining Curran and Mazzucco will be Norwood stars Rachael Webber, Jeff Mahoney, Bryan Glennon, and Kathy Ducharme, as they pursue the glory of winning the disco ball trophy.

The event takes place at the Four Points Sheraton off Route 1 with an 8 p.m. show time start. Norwood Community Media will also broadcast the entire event on the community channel.
