GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Soul and rock artist Danielia Cotton is set to perform at The Cut in Gloucester on Thursday, double billed with musician Megan Wolffe.
"Most of my career I've been like an indie rock/soul artist, and now I’ve ventured into country a little bit," Cotton said. "But the country even has a spin to it because country now actually really has grown as a genre."
The concert marks a return to the Boston area for Cotton, who has only performed here a few times. But the times she has have been "memorable," Cotton said, including when she opened for the late Gregg Allman.
"[Allman has] just got a built-in great crowd," Cotton said.
She remembered Allman being "shy" when she first met him. "He was just playing with his little ponytail," she said. "I think we were both just nervous which made him seem incredibly human."
The one thing Cotton hasn't done: run the Boston Marathon. "It's one of the few marathons I have not run," she said, noting she hasn't been able to hit the qualifying time.
Thursday's show is at 7:30 p.m. at The Cut, a live music venue that opened last year in Gloucester.
