Dartmouth Police Officer Struck By Drunk Driver

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Dartmouth police officer was injured after his cruiser was hit by an alleged drunk driver.

Officer Manny Demelo’s cruiser was struck shortly before 2 a.m on Sunday by another car, driven by 56-year-old David Costa, of New Bedford.

Demelo was investigating a crash on Route 6 near Connecticut Avenue at the time of the crash. He suffered from minor injuries was transported to a hospital in New Bedford.

The incident is currently under investigation. Costa was taken into police custody. He is facing charges of operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation.
