BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The hottest hangout spot for teens these days seems to be in the palm of their hands.

According to a new study from the Pew Research Center, daily use of social media remains relatively steady year-to-year for 13 to 17 year olds.

Most U.S. teens use social media in some form every day but 20% say they are on the platforms constantly. Sixty-four percent of teens also say they use chatbots, including 3 in 10 who use it daily.

The study finds YouTube is the preferred choice for three-quarters of kids with TikTok, Instagram and SnapChat close behind. Studies also showed teen girls are more likely to use Snapchat and Instagram while boys are more likely to use Reddit and Youtube. X and Facebook have declined drastically in the past decade.

The data is fueling more concerns of the potential mental health risks. Research shows that 48% of teens credit social media for harming people their age, up from 32% in 2022. Forty-five percent of teens say they spend too much time on social media — up from 36% in 2022.
