Dead Whale Washed Ashore In Winthrop

WINTHROP, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An investigation is underway after a whale was found dead along the shore in Winthrop on Wednesday.

The humpback whale was found lodged underneath a dock off Washington Avenue, in a channel across from Snake Island. It is unclear if the whale had become stuck in the small channel or had previously died and washed in with the tide.

“It’s a beautiful animal that it is endangered to begin with. And to lose one in shallow water is very unsettling” says Paula, the property owner where the animal was found.

A necropsy is expected be performed soon to gather more details.
