DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Business is booming at Johnny’s Pockets in Dedham, a small sub shop that was forced to close during the pandemic, but is now thriving at a new location.

Owner John Mavrides said they’ve been through a tough time but business now has taken off. “It’s been hard keeping it up, but we’re making it happen,” he said.

Johnny’s Pockets first opened up in West Roxbury at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.

He said things started out well, but then along with Covid came all of the closings and no more workers forcing him to close down. “I was too stressed out, and no one wanted to work. People were getting a thousand dollars to stay home. I looked and looked and couldn’t find any help.”

After the pandemic, Mavrides looked for another opportunity and found it in Dedham.

And now he said he can hardly keep up with all of the business coming in. He specializes in nothing but the freshest, healthiest ingredients as well as the freshest bread for his pockets. “I won’t settle for anything else. Quality above everything.”
