BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Department of Revenue is warning Bay Staters about a new text scheme involving future tax refund payments.

The text messages claim that residents will be disqualified from receiving future refunds on their taxes if they don't submit the required payment information by a certain date. They are also asked to make a payment with a credit card.

The Department of Revenue issued a reminder that they'd never send a text regarding tax refunds and encouraged people to never reply to those messages or click on a link associated with that text.

A month ago, residents were warned about scam phone calls with callers claiming to be from the state police internet crime complaint center, telling callers their identities had been stolen. The state police don't even have a crime complaint center.
