BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has launched his campaign for presidency.
Rumors of Patrick's entry into the 2020 race began on Monday; the rumors turned into reality Thursday morning when Patrick changed his social media banners to a photo of himself with the headline "Deval Patrick 2020."
Patrick also launched his campaign website DevalPatrick2020.com which includes his campaign slogan "Deval For All" and a video of Patrick making the announcement.
"In a spirit of profound gratitude for all the country has given to me, and with the determination to build a better, more sustainable, more inclusive American dream for the next generation, I am today announcing my candidacy for President of the United States," Patrick declares in the video.
Patrick has already missed the deadlines to appear on the primary ballot in Alabama and Arkansas. He has until Friday to file paperwork for the New Hampshire primary.
"This won't be easy, and it shouldn't be," Patrick says, "but I'm placing my faith in the people who feel left out and left back, who just want a fair shot at a better future; not built by somebody better than you, not built for you, but built with you. Now let's get started."
