BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The developer who withdrew plans last year to build luxury apartments on a portion of the South Shore Plaza parking lot is back with a new proposal.

ZOM Living's original plan was met by significant public criticism.

But with a new plan and a new mayoral administration in Braintree, ZOM Living has submitted a proposal it hopes will be approved.

The plan is to build 325 apartments in a four-story building and build a separate 16,000-square-foot commercial space.

Changes were made to the original plan that include the development's size and scope as well as how the buildings will be positioned.

But what hasn't changed is residents' concerns about the new development attracting more people and more traffic in an already busy and congested area. "The traffic situation is just totally out of hand. There's always been traffic there," said one resident.

The planned project costs $140 million and would be located on 10-acres between South Shore Plaza Rd. and Lakeside Dr.
