"It’s the destruction of evil and bring goodness to the world, which is what we need today, I believe," a member of Tamil Makkal Mandram, a non-profit promoting Tamil culture in New England, told WBZ NewsRadio.
The Asian American and Pacific Islanders Commission sponsored the event, which included a performance of a traditional Kathak dance at the State House's grand staircase.
"I feel very honored because it’s rare that, you know, you see cultures from across the world getting honored in such a big way," said Miley Aurora, who performed the dance.
Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll addressed a gathered audience and said multicultural celebrations like the one Friday make the world a bit smaller and communities closer.
"I think for us, this gathering today is what that’s all about. I think it makes the ability for us to learn from each other, to certainly embrace the shared cultures and traditions that we have, and working together to be able to build these strong, vibrant, livable communities," Driscoll said.
