BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Animal Control are calling for an investigation after they recovered a dog with serious injuries.
A good samaritan found the dog named Jesse wandering through the streets of Roxbury. When the samaritan found the five-year-old cocker spaniel-poodle mix, she had what appeared to be a hair elastic wrapped around her muzzle.
Emily Walls, a veterinarian with Animal Control, told WBZ's Chris Fama the dog's injuries were serious when she was brought to them.
"The band was tight enough that it cut off all the blood flow to all of the tissues," she said. "The injuries, once when we were able to clean them off, were down to the bone."
Animal Control is now calling on Boston Police to press animal cruelty charges against Jesse's owner if they are found. Boston Police are looking into the incident. Walls said she hopes the person behind the abuse can be located.

"One of the big things when I see animals that are suffering is they don't live in a vacuum," Walls said. "When we think about animals as part of the family then we also want to use them as an indicator for potential problems that might be going on in the household overall."
