Dog Rescued From Amesbury Pond

AMESBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A runaway dog has been reunited with her family after she fell through the ice at Clark's Pond.

Police initially responded to reports of a dog on the loose on Sunday morning. A video posted to Amesbury Police Department's Facebook page said one of their officers located the frightened pitbull, Navia, on Water Street. That's when she took off running towards the pond and fell through the ice.

Amesbury Fire Department were called in to perform a water rescue. Two firefighters made their way through the thin ice to rescue the pup. Officers said she had been in the freezing water for under ten minutes.

Navia was pulled to the shore safely, warmed up, and reunited with her owners. Police said everyone involved in the daring rescue is "safe and healthy."
