TOPSFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — At 84 years young, the legendary Chubby Checker is still performing.

He'll be making an appearance this fall at the Topsfield Fair.

The iconic American singer and dancer is best known for popularizing 'The Twist' dance craze in 1960.

His famous cover of the Hank Ballard R&B song became a massive hit, reaching number one on the charts in different years.

The popular follow-up to that song, 'Let's Twist Again' in 1961, won a Grammy and became his biggest hit in the United Kingdom.

'Pony Time' and 'Limbo Rock' also topped the charts in 1961 and 1962, respectively.

Chubby will be performing at the Topsfield Fair's Grandstand Stage on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.

The show is free, with paid admission to the Fair.

“It’s been four years since Chubby Checker performed at the Fair, and I’m very glad he's able to be back with us again,” said James O’Brien, General Manager, Topsfield Fair. “You won’t want to miss your opportunity to see this legendary performer live.”

This will be the 208th Topsfield Fair.

It runs Oct. 2-12.
