Dorchester Man Crashes In Front Yard After Driving Erratically

COHASSET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Dorchester man is facing charges for allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and crashing his vehicle in the front yard of a home in Scituate on Saturday night.

Cohasset Police responded to a 911 call about an erratic driver on North Main Street traveling toward the Scituate town line at around 9:50 p.m.

Soon after the call, an officer saw the vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road and driving erratically, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Dion Smith of Dorchester, fled from police and continued south on Main Street into Scituate, where he crashed into a tree and came to a stop in a front yard on Country Way.

Cohasset Police provided first aid to Smith until Scituate Fire Department paramedics arrived, and he was transported to South Shore Hospital with injuries that are serious but not life threatening.

Smith is facing charges of Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License for OUI, Speeding, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, and Marked Lanes Violation. Authorities said the case remains under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
