BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Downtown Boston Business Improvement District put up some holiday decorations that are bound to catch people’s attention.

The decorations in question are twelve giant nutcrackers that all have animal heads.

A polar bear, a wolf, an elephant, and a penguin are just some of the animals represented on these 16-foot statues.

They were placed all along the crossing, mainly lining Washington Street and Summer Street.

“I think that they're great,” said one woman who was admiring and taking pictures of the nutcrackers. “They're very creative and it brings a nice holiday feel to the area and sort of a sense of community.”

George Comeau, a member of the Downtown Boston BID, had a hand in their installation.

He felt that they add an extra layer of excitement when coming to Downtown Crossing.

“Downtown Crossing has always been part of the holiday season, and we know that people want unexpected surprises,” said George. “In addition to coming to Macy's and Primark an Old Navy and all the stores that you can come down to here, you also get some really great treats along the way.”

This display is part of Downtown Boston Alliance’s “Holiday Kingdom”, which not only includes these nutcrackers, but also winter lights and festive greenery.

A few events will also be held in the Holiday Kingdom, including an outdoor Holiday Market and weekend visits from Santa.

This attraction will remain up through January 2nd.
