BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of demonstrators rallied on Boston Common Friday to oppose what they are calling a President Trump and Elon Musk-led "coup."
A coalition of Massachusetts organizations sponsored the "Stop the Coup" rally, including the American Civil Liberties Union, Citizens for Public Schools, the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition, TransResistance, and the Palestinian Youth Movement.
The rally came just over a week after a similar rally protesting the Trump administration and Project 2025 outside the Massachusetts State House.

The coalition accuses President Trump and Musk of an authoritarian power grab. Since assuming office, President Trump has signed a series of sweeping executive orders on subjects including immigration, the transgender community, climate change, and diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.
Meanwhile, Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has gained access to several federal agencies as part of its task to cut excessive government spending, while also gaining access to sensitive payment information at the Treasury Department.

"We will fight like hell to stop these people from destroying our communities, from dividing us, from convincing our country that some of us are not worthy of life," said speaker Naia Tenerowicz from the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition."
Protestors also voiced their displeasure with the Democrats' response to the Trump administration, calling on them to take the gloves off and for the people to keep taking to the streets.
"We need you to call on our leaders to protect our communities, to be bold and visionary," said Helen of the immigrants rights group Cosecha Massachusetts.
After gathering on the Common, protestors marched to the John F. Kennedy Federal Building with the rallying cry "Stop the coup now!"
