HANOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — From bearded dragons to specially bred ball pythons, the Massachusetts Reptile Expo had it all.
On Sunday, dozens of vendors brought exotic animals and set up shop at the Starland Sportsplex in Hanover, Mass. With a black rat snake in hand, Zachary Cieplik with the Cape Anne Vernal Pond Team said the event gives them a chance to educate people about animals that are often “villainized.”
“Reptiles and amphibians are some of the coolest animals when you look into it,” said Cieplik. “When you really get to know them, they are just crazy interesting animals and it’s worth spending the time to do so.”
Joseph Rogers with CV Exotics was there with a table full of snakes. With decades of breeding them to have specific colors and patterns, he said he sells some of his snakes for hundreds of dollars.
“Some of these genes are 20 years in the making, so it takes a long time [to get to] where you’re stacking the genes in the orders that you want to stack them and the colorations are coming out the way you want them to,” said Rogers.
Organizers said the next Massachusetts Reptile Expo will take place on June 22, 2025.
