Driver Charged In Connection With Deadly Crash In Methuen

METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A driver has been charged in connection with a fatal crash on I-495 northbound in Methuen, authorities announced Sunday.

Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker said State Police troopers and Methuen firefighters responded to the crash shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, first responders found a heavily damaged pickup truck with people trapped inside, Tucker said.

A 37-year-old male occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 41-year-old male occupant was taken to Lawrence General Hospital and later pronounced dead, the DA said.

Two other occupants inside the vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Tucker said the driver of another vehicle involved the crash, Katrina Ngyuen, 26, allegedly left the scene of the fatal incident.

Nguyen later turned herself in to the Lawrence Police Department.

According to the DA, Nguyen has been charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, leaving the scene resulting in death, leaving the scene with personal injury, leaving the scene with property damage, and operating a motor vehicle after suspension.

Nguyen will be arraigned Monday in Lawrence Superior Court.

The identities of the victims are being withheld pending the notification of their families. The crash remains under investigation.
